Hands in Service is excited to have been awarded a 25th anniversary Rick Hansen commemorative medallion for being a “difference maker” in our community. This is a great honour and we are very grateful to Norm Letnick, our MLA, for selecting us out of all the possible worthy recipients.
Norm told us that he had put out a request on Facebook for recommendations on potential award recipients and made inquiries in a number of ways, but none of the resulting suggestions had the right feel. While browsing the newspaper, he read the June 17, 2012 Okanagan Sun article about our Walker-Thon and knew that he had found the right fit. Our Walker-Thon event strongly aligns with Rick Hansen’s goals of bringing change, motivating change, and raising awareness for the disabled population and we are anticipate that this recognition will only assist us to continue.
